The easiest way to recycle at home is by your blue recycling bin. The materials that can be recycled via your blue bin (paper, cans and plastic bottles) are only a small part of all household waste that can be recycled. For example, approximately 80 per cent of all household waste can be recycled. Paper, cans and plastic bottles only account for approximately 30 per cent of household waste.
In the East Riding, the kerbside blue bin recycling scheme covers nearly all of the 146,000 households. Blue bins are provided free of charge and collected every four weeks.
The blue recycling bins have had a positive impact on recycling across the East Riding. In 2007/8 with your help we collected over 15,000 tonnes of paper, cans and plastic bottles. We now collect over 300 tonnes of recyclables from blue bins across the East Riding every week!
If you require a blue bin, or would like an additional one, call the customer services network on 01482 393939.
