Recycling green garden waste is extremely important. Such organic waste can form up to a third of our weekly rubbish.
Put green waste into your refuse bin and it will go to landfill where it will rot, producing large quantities of the greenhouse gas, methane.
Please do not put garden waste into your refuse bin. If you can, please take it to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre where it will be composted.
An excellent alternative is to home compost which provides a way of reducing this waste and, at the same time, making a product that is useful for gardening, landscaping or house plants.
Composting replaces the nutrients that plants remove from the soil as food. Failure to replace this rich top-soil, humus, often leads to soil that is barren and infertile.
Where can I get a composter?
To encourage home composting, Hull City Council has a special offer of a free 220 litre home composter.
Order your compost bin online or call 0845 076 0223 (charged at local rate).
